Neeral Shah, M.D.
GI Fellowship, Program Director & Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Virginia Medical Center

Dr. Shah is an associate professor with tenure at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, specializing in transplant hepatology. His clinical research interests include coagulation in liver disease and viral hepatitis. His medical education research interests include the use of technology in the classroom, and the concept of cognitive load. Dr. Shah received his M.D. at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed training and chief residency at George Washington University. He then finished a gastroenterology fellowship at Lahey Clinic before completing a transplant hepatology fellowship at the University of Virginia. He has an extensive role in medical education; co-chairing the pre-clerkship curriculum at UVA, serves as the director of the Academy for Excellence in Education, the GI fellowship program director, and co-chair of the national Academies Collaborative at the AAMC. Dr. Shah serves on national committees for the ACG and AASLD. He is also a co-editor for the DDSEP gastroenterology board review book for the AGA. Finally, Dr. Shah is an alumnus of the Harvard Macy Institute Health Educator program.

Navin Kumar, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School
Associate Medicine Clerkship Site Director & Associate Physician in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital


Dr. Kumar received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Dr. Kumar’s clinical interests are in general gastroenterology. He has served as the associate site director of the medicine clerkship at BWH since 2017 and previously co-directed the clinical skills course at HMS and BWH for 1st year medical students. As a new faculty member in 2017, he received the Clinical Research Scholars Program award from the BWH Department of Medicine to conduct medical education research with a specific focus on endoscopy education. He has since published several manuscripts on endoscopy assessment and teaching. He also enjoys his time as a founding member and host of the Run the List podcast, now in partnership with Access Medicine.

Walker Redd, M.D.
Fellow in Gastroenterology & Hepatology at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

After going to medical school at the University of Virginia, Walker completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is currently a fellow in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of North Carolina. He is interested in medical education, particularly clinical reasoning and digital education resources. He is also interested in clinical outcomes research with a focus on esophageal disorders.

Joyce C. Zhou, M.D.
Resident in Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Zhou received her MD in 2021 from Harvard Medical School (HMS) and is currently an internal medicine resident at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, MA. Clinically, she is interested in cardiology or gastroenterology, with a focus on optimizing chronic illness and end-of-life care outcomes. Besides serving on the Run the List team, she has been involved in various medical education initiatives, including creating a microteaching curriculum for clerkship students to learn how to become better clinical teachers, serving on the medical education council at MGH to improve residency education, and leading small groups in the clinical development course for pre-clerkship HMS students.

Blake Smith
Medical & PhD student at Harvard Medical School

Blake is a 4th year MD-PhD student within the Health Sciences and Technology (HST) track at Harvard Medical School and MIT. He's currently pursuing a PhD in immunology with the aim of reprogramming T cells for improved cancer immunotherapy. Clinically, he's interested in hematology/oncology and hopes to one day translate research findings to patients at the bedside. Outside of lab/clinic, Blake enjoys working with the other members of the Run the List team on Med Ed-related podcast content!
