Dr. Marcia Pierce
Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, Eastern Kentucky University

Dr. Marcia Pierce received her PhD in microbiology from the University of New Hampshire in 1995, where she studied the pathogenesis of the foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. After a brief stint in biotechnology in La Jolla, California, she began teaching full-time at Eastern Kentucky University in the department of Biological Sciences. Her research interests include the interaction of pathogens with microbiota in hosts in the disease process, as well as the genetic traits of the human pathogens Streptococcus pyogenes and S. agalactiae. She also coaches the EKU Fencing Club Intercollegiate team, and fences epee competitively at the national level.
