In this session, Dr. Steven L. Cohn will review the major updates in the 2024 ACC/AHA guideline on perioperative cardiovascular management for noncardiac surgery, with comparisons to the 2014 ACC/AHA and 2022 ESC guidelines.
He will highlight the new stepwise, risk-based algorithm for cardiovascular assessment, including the use of validated tools such as the Revised Cardiac Risk Index (RCRI) and NSQIP calculators, evaluation of functional capacity, incorporation of risk modifiers, and the role of biomarkers.
The session will also cover the selective use of imaging and stress testing in current practice, along with important perioperative management strategies.
Emphasis will be placed on the guideline’s team-based, patient-centered approach, particularly for patients with complex or unstable cardiovascular disease.
By the end of the webinar, participants will be equipped to apply these evidence-based recommendations in perioperative care, ensuring improved patient outcomes and alignment with best practices.
